William J. Sovick Sr. of West Mifflin (tribunereview)
William J. Sovick Sr., 85, of West Mifflin, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012. He
was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn (Grudowski) Sovick; loving father,
best friend and steady rock of William J. Sovick Jr., of Elizabeth, and Sophia
"Susie" (Benny) Vann, of West Mifflin; brother of the late Michael (surviving
Madeline) Sovic and Andrew Sovic; grandfather of William J. Sovick III,
Matthew A. Sovick, Danielle A. Vann and Benny L. Vann Jr; great-grandfather of
four; brother-in-law of Joanie Rydzak and the late Raymond (surviving Judy)
Grudowski, Leonard (surviving Stephanie) Grudowski and Lorraine (surviving
William) Harris; also the proud owner of his beloved dog, Danny Boy, whom he
adored. William proudly served in the Army, earning a Victory Medal in
Company, a 61st Armored Infantry Battalion 10th Armored Division during World
War II in Central Europe and Rhineland. He is a retired US Steel Homestead
"The Big Shop" Machinist, "The Pride of the Valley". He was also the owner of
Sovic's Grocery which was located on the corner of Fifth and Mills in Braddock
in the 1950s and 60s. He was also known as the 'Video/Lottery Man' at the
Giant Eagle in North Versailles, ...
